MANTRA around canvas edge:
Sweet Angel of Love, please carry me Home, safe in your arms through turmoil & storm. Grant me courage and comfort, a true love Divine. Bless me to cross the difficult ocean of the world. Amen.
“Cross the Difficult Ocean” comes from my graphic novel The Coyote Girl. It's the moment when the heroine connects with her Divine Higher Self. By loving herself and recovering from the trauma of abuse, she becomes able to love another human being.
Carl Jung theorized that each person carries inside the unconscious mind an archetype of an opposite type. For example, a man carries an anima and a woman carries an animus. Much of the work of alchemy is to combine and unite the opposites. Psychologically, the angelic figure in this work represents the heroine's animus and therefore the key to her higher, angelic self.
The title comes from a Sikh prayer, in which meditation on the Name of God gives us the strength and Divine Grace to "cross the difficult ocean of the world."
